V.Devinster
Virginie de Vinster is atypical. She didn’t go to fashion design school. Nor did she go to the big fashion houses. Her university was in Africa, where she worked for 15 years. Her apprenticeship included trips to the Sahel, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo and Ghana.
In Africa, Virginie began by observing weavers and dyers. She strolled through markets and bargained in stalls filled with multicolored loincloths. She has always been amazed by the incredible creativity of craftsmen and by the urban cultures of West Africa… Her travels in the bush have also helped her discover the slowness of time and listening to others, the symbolic power of things, conviviality and the transmission of values… And then Virginie the adventurer went to India and South-East Asia, to Peru and the Andes. There, she observed other trades, other customs and other people.
This global experience inspired her to love and support these people who became her friends. She wanted to bring them together through their skills and expertise. Her talent lies in perfectly blending styles and materials and weaving together cultures through the simplest and most natural of objects: clothing. Each of her collections, created following a journey, is an adventure.
